Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take me to get my photographs?.

About 3-4 weeks on average, during quiet periods I usually can deliver sooner.

What happens if you get sick or injured and can’t photograph the day?

I'm generally a fairly healthy person and am rarely ill, but if I am completely incapacitated I will contact another photographer to come and shoot your wedding. I have good friends, and a network of last minute fill-in photographers who I can call on them to cover for me. I will endeavour to never leave you without someone to photograph your wedding, and touch wood I've never missed one or let anyone down yet.

What happens if we have to cancel or postpone the wedding?

If for any reason you have to move your date then, if I’m free for the new date, we simply move everything over to that new date. If I’m not free or you have to cancel altogether then the cancelation policy in the contract applies and the initial booking fee is non-refundable, the remaining money is not due so long as the cancelation comes 29 days or more before the wedding date, if the cancelation is 28 days or less before the wedding date then the total fee becomes due and is payable. If anything like this looks like it might happen then please please get in touch ASAP and we can work out what’s best to do.

Do I get the copyright to my photos?

You will get a license to use, share and print the photos, the only thing you can’t do is sell them. As the photographer, I retain copyright of the images unless otherwise agreed in the contract.

How many photos will I get?

Every wedding is different so it's really hard to pin this down to a specific number, but an average for a full day’s wedding photography including black and white edits is between 450 and 600 images.  For a 3 hour shoot, you can expect between 150 and 300 images.

Are you insured?

Yes. I am fully covered for £1,000,000 public liability and professional indemnity, as well as having all of my equipment insured. These documents can be provided on request.

How would you define your style?

Difficult to pin me down - but on the whole I'd describe my style as being natural and documentary-ish. I like to take un-posed, real, relaxed photographs of people. For me it’s all about capturing these unrepeatable natural and spontaneous un-posed moments of joy. That being said, most couples request the normal group shots, bridal party, family, etc, and for these shots, sometimes a little bit of gentle direction is required.  It's always really nice to get some romantic shots of the happy couple that will require direction - but again, I try to keep that to an absolute mininum as I'm well aware that not everyone enjoys having their photograph taken.

Can we have posed photos?

Of course! While my style lends itself to un-staged natural photos, I love nothing more than capturing those romantic shots that most brides want on their wedding day.   I appreciate there is a need for some formal posed shots, and I usually try to do these without taking either you or your guests away from your wedding day for any longer than absolutely necessary. This is also something that I cover with couples when I contact them about 4-6 weeks out from the wedding, and will normally get a shot list compiled so that I don't miss anything on the day.

How far will you travel?

Basically - as far as you need me to.  Any travel within the central belt of Scotland is covered for within the package rates that I charge. Any ceremonies outwith this area would attract a nominal travel charge, which I'm more than happy to discuss and agree on prior to booking.

What happens before our wedding?

About 4-6 weeks before the wedding I will send you a short questionnaire to complete, then after this we can have a face to face or Skype meeting at your wedding venue if possible. If you fancy grabbing a coffee somewhere neutral that's all good - and my treat!. From here I can start to build up a picture of your day and a timeline of whats happening where and when, then a few days before the actual wedding I'll ring up just to confirm my arrival time. If at any point you have any questions then do get in touch.

What happens after our wedding?

After your wedding is when all the sorting, storing, editing and backing up your photos begins. I start with a backup of all the memory cards used that day onto my main computer, then again onto an external drive, and lastly the cloud.  I also keep the photos on the memory cards till I’m done editing that way I have at least 3 backups of your photos at all times. Then I’ll start culling, sorting and editing your photos.  Once I’m happy with the results,  I'll back these up again and they then get uploaded onto an online gallery to be stored offsite. This all can seem to be a bit of overkill I know, but computers break, hard drives fail and disasters though rare, can happen, I like to minimise the risk as much as possible.

After this I'll send you a link to an online gallery where your images will be available for you, your family and friends, to view, download or order copies of prints.  All online galleries are available to access for a period of 6 months following your wedding, though this can be extended to 12 months at no extra cost if required.  Copies of both the raw and edited shots from your wedding are stored by myself for life.  If you're prefer your shots presented on a pen-drive as opposed to an on-line gallery - just let me know - it's never a problem.

How do we book?

You can start the ball rolling by clicking on the contact me button below. Please include the date of your wedding if you have it, from here I can send you a small questionnaire to get the ball rolling. A signed contract and £200 booking fee secures your date. After this you'll hear from me about 4-6 weeks before the wedding to go over the final details, but I'm available at any time to answer any questions you might have.
